On Eagles Wings

Who is eligible?

  • African American adults with disabilities (over the age of 18 years) and who are interested in gaining a basic understanding of leadership skills and best practices in the field of developmental disabilities

  • African American parents of young children with developmental disabilities under the age of 18 years) who are interested in gaining a basic understanding of leadership skills and best practices in the field of developmental disabilities

 

Where are the training's held?

 

Time of the training and is there food provided?  

  • 8:30 -9:00 am Light Breakfast.

  • 12:00 noon.  Light lunch is provided. 

  • Training ends at 2:00 pm

 

What are the training dates?

 

  • 1st Training: Sat. January 21st

  • 2nd Training: Sat. February 11th

Do I have to attend all the training?

Yes. You must plan on attending all training's please put all the training dates on your calendar. Please note that all the training's are on a Saturday morning (Except for our 'Day at the Capitol' on Wednesday, March 15th.)

More about our 'Day at the Capitol': Our 'Day at the Capitol' is the highlight of the training year for most On Eagles Wings participants and you will use all of the information and training from the first four training's to understand the legislative process and create positive changes for people with developmental disabilities and their families

Is there homework?

Yes, there is homework that takes about 30 minutes to complete. Don't worry, homework support is available, just ask and a staff person will help you.

Will there be a graduation ceremony?

Yes! At 1:00 pm at our sixth and finale training on Saturday, March 25th we will have our On Eagles Wings graduation ceremony. You may invite family and friends for cake and beverages. We will give out graduation certificates, awards for 'Perfect Attendance' and 'Leadership Awards' and a couple of surprises!

Are there more leadership training programs on disability?

Yes! Each year two or three graduates from the On Eagles Wings program apply to the highly competitive Minnesota Partners in Policymaking® program. On Eagles Wings graduates go through the same selection process that all applicants to the Partners program.

 On Eagles Wings program is an introduction to the concepts of the Partners leadership training program; the larger commitment required of Partners participants in terms of taking personal responsibility for learning, attendance, longer weekend sessions, more intense training, a broad range of participatory activities, and required homework.
